Couples Therapy in Los Angeles

Every relationship hits difficult stretches. Communication that feels impossible. Distance that crept in gradually. Arguments that keep circling the same ground without resolution. Or something harder - a breach of trust, a loss, a fundamental question about the future.

Couples therapy at NEST is for partners who are ready to work - not just to manage conflict, but to genuinely understand each other and build a relationship that reflects who you both are now.

Couples Therapy for All Relationship Structures

NEST is an explicitly affirming practice. Our therapists work with:

  • Married and long-term couples

  • Dating and newer relationships

  • Non-monogamous, polyamorous, and open relationships

We do not bring assumptions about what a relationship should look like. We bring curiosity about what works for you.

Our Approach to Couples Therapy

NEST couples therapists draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and relational psychodynamic approaches. We focus on the patterns and dynamics beneath the presenting conflict - the attachment needs, protective behaviours, and communication styles that shape how partners experience each other.

Couples therapy at NEST typically involves sessions of 50–80 minutes. Some couples find significant shifts in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term work. We will check in with you regularly about whether the process is working.

Individual Therapy Alongside Couples Work

Sometimes couples therapy surfaces material that one partner wants to explore individually. NEST can offer parallel individual therapy with a different clinician so both processes support each other without creating conflicting alliances.

Insurance & Fees

Couples therapy sessions at NEST start at 25 per 50-minute session. Insurance coverage for couples therapy varies - Aetna, United Healthcare, Optum, and Cigna may cover sessions depending on your plan and the presenting clinical issues.

We can help you understand your coverage during your free consultation.
