Working with Zaakirah
I (she/her) offer EMDR for rebellious, high-achieving women of color with depression - to get you out of those same old patterns of people pleasing, avoiding conflict, and playing small that keep you bound to a version of yourself that you don't recognize.
Areas I specialize and LOVE working in are complex trauma/trauma recovery, life transitions, spiritual/psychedelic integration, burnout, depression, and identity development and renegotiation. Clients who work with me identify as high achievers, are known as reliable and responsible, feel like they're on autopilot, and are worried that they've failed in life by not living up to their own expectations.
My role as a therapist is to provide a non-judgmental, attuned presence for you to remember who you are and who you still can be. I am not the right fit for you if you aren't open to being curious enough to see the parts of yourself you've been trying to avoid, to experiment with relating to yourself more kindly, or if you expect your therapist to tell you what to do so you can keep striving for perfection.
Availability: Mondays and Tuesday 10am - 4pm; Wednesday and Thursday 4pm - Evening

Why I became a therapist:
I am a self-identified recovering perfectionist with lived experience as a classical Russian ballet dancer and 4-year NCAA Division I varsity athlete (whew). Contrary to popular belief, I didn't become a therapist because I wanted to help people. I'm here to create a world in which every individual is celebrated for their unique talents, perspectives, and self-expression and I actually need your help to build that world.
